Design process

Ask Eddie is an AI-powered chat tool built on top of ClientEd, LifeLearn's pet health education library. It lets pet owners and practice teams ask a question in plain language and get a clear answer drawn from ClientEd's expert-written content. It's available as a standalone product or as part of LifeLearn's wider suite.

The intent was to make AI feel trustworthy, friendly and useful. Most pet owners are already searching the internet for answers about their pet, and a lot of that information is unreliable. We wanted Eddie to feel like a helpful member of the practice team, and not a generic chatbot.

The UI/UX had to make asking a question feel as easy as sending a text, with answers that are short and easy to read. Because the answers come from ClientEd, the design needed to signal that the information is vetted and consistent with what the veterinary team would say themselves. Eddie also had to work for two audiences, giving pet owners quick answers while saving practice teams from fielding the same questions repeatedly. Since Eddie can be sold on its own or bundled with other LifeLearn products, it needed to feel complete by itself and still sit naturally inside the broader platform.
